Vue Newport | Mixed-Use

Vue Newport is a 2½-acre, mixed-use waterfront development with a subterranean parking garage and 20 boat slips. The geotechnical team of HD Geosolutions, Inc. and J.P. Singh & Associates was engaged by the contractor during construction after conventional auger-cast piles did not achieve design capacities.

The selected foundation alternative consisted of drilled, full-displacement piles. Our objective was to perform and interpret pile load testing, and to provide deep foundation installation expertise at this dewatered site. Balancing the rates of auger advancement and rotation, and optimizing the rate of spin while extracting the auger were keys to preventing auger lock and soil mining. Working together, a successful and efficient foundation installation was achieved for the project.

Our staff is highly experienced with deep foundations. Our principals have consulted on several major projects involving load testing and installation of deep foundations, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum repair, Canada’s Confederation Bridge, Thailand’s Bang Na Expressway, Hawaii’s Interstate H-3, Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, Universal Studios Hollywood, Ten Thousand 40-story high-rise, and many others.
