Quarry Reclamation / Inert Debris Fill

HD Geosolutions, Inc. has been providing geotechnical services for the reclamation of depleted mine quarries continuously since 2005. Federal, state, and local regulations require that these sites be reclaimed for beneficial use. Our staff provides geotechnical services in support of mine backfilling and the ultimate site development, including retail, commercial, and/or industrial use. Inert materials for backfilling mine quarries include imported construction and demolition debris (e.g., concrete, brick, asphalt), and imported soils from various sources.

Engineered fills at these sites typically exceed 100 feet in thickness. To date, our staff has engineered, observed, and tested over 11 million cubic yards of engineered inert debris fill, most of which now supports commercial developments. To complement our land reclamation experience, we utilize the latest field and office technology, which results in efficiency and dependable documentation.

We utilize in-house, state-of-the-art GPS/survey equipment, drone technology, and database strategies to acquire and organize the extensive quantity of data and information associated with these types of projects. Our services include:

  • Geotechnical site characterization and engineering
  • Quality assurance programs during Inert Debris Engineered Fill Operations (IDEFO)
  • Large-scale relative density and gradation testing
  • Geotechnical instrumentation
  • Third-party review
  • Value engineering
  • Drone aerial surveys and volumetrics
  • Asset management and long-term record retention
